Affirmative action or sometimes known as positive discrimination have been an issue that has going on around the world. Even though the policies vary from country to country, with some having quotas and others offering preferences in the selection process, the idea of providing special opportunities to a disadvantaged group remains universal. Our group choose this topic as we all have a personal interest in affirmative action and have had some form of affiliation with it in our lives. It can been seen when students apply to schools, jobs, and any other institutions. This topic has been involved around the world and the it seemed like something interesting to learn more about as well. Affirmative action was first used a way to promote certain actions that would hopefully achieve non-discrimination. Affirmative action is intended to promote the opportunities of defined minority groups within a society to give them equal access to that of the privileged majority population. This has become a problem when it comes to applying for jobs, a university, and any other entity. The term was first used in the United States in the Executive Order 10925 and was signed by President Kennedy in the early 1960’s. Research questions are the basic building blocks of a research project. Developing good research questions is one of the first steps in the research process (Taylor, 1999). When developed correctly using precise language and when it is properly investigated beforehand, research questions should guide the research project and assist in the topic’s investigation (Taylor, 1999). When approaching a new Research project one must ask, â€Å"what information do I need to know and what kind of questions can I ask to obtain the information I’m looking for?† In research there is either a broad topic or a narrowed down topic. This is where research questions come into play. Creating a good research question can eliminate any unnecessary information.†¦show more content†¦This should begin by identifying a topic that can be investigated then doing general research about the topic to find any information or research that already exists (Taylor, 1999). Choose a questio n that is simple yet will uncover other questions of detail; make sure your question has an in-depth understanding of what your topic is. (Brause, R. S. 2000) The topic should be somewhat of interest to the author, and not just a convenient topic (Tosi, 1984). Research questions should be of interest to the writer but, not so personal that it does not apply to others outside their circle. â€Å"Studies that are linked to the concerns of the larger community are more likely to be of interest to that larger community and to contribute to the larger conversation† (Kennedy, M. 2006). Typical problems include areas of improvement and areas of difficulty (Biddix, 2009). Questions can also seek to relate items to each other, such as a human resource professional trying to find a correlation between pay scales and turnover rates. Dicussion of the Purpose of Shakespeares Sonnet 18

Shakespeares collection of sonnets is heralded as one of the greatest, most ambitious sonnet collections in English literature. Of these154 sonnets, the first 126 of them are addressed to a fair youth, a beatiful young man, with whom Shakespeare has developed an intimate friendship. The overarching theme of devotion in antimony to mortality denotes that â€Å"Sonnet 18† is predominantly a love poem. Accordingly the purpose of the poem seems initially to be to compare his beloved friends handsomness with a common symbol of beauty, a fine summers day. However, Shakespeare actually provides a pragmatic critique of the conventions of love poetry in his doing so. Ergo, the girlfriend has been replaced by the friend. Nonetheless, Shakespeare feels that this metaphor cannot do justice to the radiance of his subject. As mentioned, the first quatrains punchline: â€Å"And Summers lease hath all too short a date† describes how the ephemeral summer is too short which alludes to the idea that time takes its toll on a beautiful youths allure. Here Shakespeares diction is very apt. He employs the word â€Å"lease† to describe how the summer is short-lived; in modern English it can be understood as it is rented, temporary, the lease is soon up. Accordingly, Shakespeare wishes the summer would last longer and feels despair as he considers the notion that as the summer glow receeds, so the youths beauty too must fade. The creature looks into the cottage as he has done so many times before and ponders on his discoveries. He says to himself again and again What am I? Why don’t I have any friends, a family, or any human interaction? He longed for a father that watched him in his infant days and a mother that blessed him with smiles and caresses. The creature is forced to be exiled by humans and lives in the world alone. He learns about life and language by watching from afar as a result of Victor Frankenstein abandoning him immediately after giving him life. On first impression of the character Frankenstein in the novel Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley, she paints him to have lived a happy childhood that sets him up for a promising fulfilled future. S. government and all policing organizations throughout the U. Georgia have changed the way police agencies investigate and charge offenders who eventually end up in prison. Police are no longer able to question a suspect without first advising the suspect of their Miranda rights (Miranda v. Arizona). Illegal search and seizure is no longer admissible in court (Mapp v. Ohio). Cruel and unusual punishment is no longer tolerated (Fuhrman v. Georgia) (AllGov, 2011). The criminal justice system exists by making each branch dependent upon the other. Police agencies investigate the crime, take custody of the suspect, recommend charges to be filed against the offender, then hand the case off to the judicial branch to adjudicate. Once the case has been tried, if the defendant has been convicted, or pled guilty, the corrections department takes over and makes sure the defendant serves his/her sentence. The impact of this relationship on American society insures that the citizens of this country feel safe. The impact shows criminals that society will not tolerate crimes against society. Team members have a common goal to meet and are held responsible for meeting their goals. They depend on each other for their establishment and the result which is obtained from their joined effort is an outcome of combined interaction between them. Since the team is held responsible collectively, the work of incorporating with each other is included as one of the responsibilities of the members of the team (Aveyard 2014). Factors that contribute to effective team performance: Teams that work well together are more innovative and effective. If a team has clear team objectives and high level of participation, the quality and support for innovation shall also increase. Such factors play a very important role in improving a teams performance. The team leaders of a team play a very important role, as they are the ones who have the responsibility of encouraging and motivating the team for higher level of performance. However, team members should also have the inner motivation to work for meeting the common goal and target of the team. In a health care system, if team members participate in group workings, they may feel less stressed and this may help in increasing their stay at the workplace. As a care worker, it is important that each one of us have good communication with other team members. This allows high level of social support amongst the team members. Maintaining positive attitude towards work and towards each other in the team, increases cooperation wi th others in the team (Aveyard and Sharp 2013). Barriers to efficient team performance: The two most common barriers to effective team performance are: Poor Planning Poor Leadership Poor Planning: The kind of role one plays within a team does not matter, one has to take time to plan what exactly they want to do. Goals and objectives provide a standard against which one has to measure their success. If poor planning prevails over a team at a given time, the overall success and growth of the team can decrease. As a care worker, it is always expected from us to provide effective care and support to people, hence it is very important for us to plan our work according to the tasks we have on each day. Planning helps in expedient delivery of the tasks we have on each day (Lowes and Hulatt 2013). Poor Leadership: No matter how capable a team may be, unless the team is guided by a dedicated and knowledgeable person, it will be tough for a team to achieve their goals. If the leader cannot lead properly, the team will not be able to follow. This will lead to confusion and ambiguity within the team members. As a care worker, my role is, despite my team leaders are not competent enough to handle the team I shall still make sure that an individual level I follow the aims and objectives of the organization at large (Munn and Winter 2013). Conclusion: To conclude this report, it may be stated that working collectively as part of the team is very important.
